  1. About

Meet the LGBT HERO team

LGBT HERO currently has four team members. LGBT HERO's staff work in partnership with over 100 volunteers and stakeholders who help us produce our projects, programmes and services.

Meet the team:

Ian Howley | Chief Executive

(He/Him)

Email: [email protected] | Twitter: @IanHowley

Ian is the Chief Executive Officer for LGBT HERO. Ian joined LGBT HERO in 2010 as the Associate Editor for FS magazine when he moved over from Ireland. He took over as Editor in 2011, while taking on the position of Online Communications Manager for LGBT HERO. In 2016, Ian was appointed CEO. Ian's background is in mental health, sexual health, suicide prevention and youth issues. Ian strongly feels that no LGBTQ+ person should have to face health and social inequalities for simply being who they are.

Liam Murphy | Head of Projects and Operations

(He/Him)

Email: [email protected]

Liam joined LGBT HERO in 2014 and is the Head of Projects and Operations for LGBT HERO. Liam oversees a team who help to deliver campaigns, support groups, community development and fundraising, while bringing his own skills to further the charity in supporting our communities to create personal and social change. Liam is passionate about working in partnership with the people who want to make a difference in our communities. What drives Liam is making sure all of LGBT HERO's campaigns and services are developed by and for the people they serve.

Sam Killy | Community Fundraising and Engagement Officer

(He/They)

Email: [email protected]

Sam is the Community Fundraising and Engagement Officer for LGBT HERO since 2023. Before joining LGBT HERO, Sam worked for Lush Cosmetics for seven years in which they developed their skills in management, community fundraising and events. He joined LGBT HERO as he is passionate about ensuring the future of our work continues and that we build a strong network of support around us through community fundraising and events. He is passionate about making sure that everyone in the LGBTQ+ community feels represented in the work that we do.

Dan Singh | Community Support and Engagement Officer

(he/him/they)

Email: [email protected]

Dan has worked in Community Support and Engagement for LGBT HERO since 2022. Dan's role is to facilitate online social support groups - South Asian HangOuts , 50+ HangOuts , LGBTQ+ HangOuts and Forty & Beyond,  training, and project and campaign related work, as well as managing the LGBT HERO forums.

With 25 years of experience in sexual health, mental health, and wellbeing, Dan has worked extensively with and for LGBTQ+ individuals and communities. His experience spans across various organisations, including the NHS, LGBTQ+ charities, and universities. Dan is passionate about creating safer spaces for all LGBTQ+ people, where they can talk openly, be their authentic selves, be listened to and connect with one another to reduce isolation including social, cultural and geographical.
