Now more than ever, community for LGBTQ+ women is crucial. In LGBT HERO’s LGBTQ+ Lockdown Wellbeing Report 2021, 80% of LGBTQ+ people and 87% of LBGTQ+ women said that the latest lockdown had negatively affected their mental health.

So, where can LBGTQ+ women find safe, social spaces?


Groups

The following groups all have a variety of both online and in person events:


Organisations 

LGBT Foundation has numerous programmes that are for and inclusive of LBT women:

  • The Women’s Programme, which is currently holding online events for LB+ women, inclusive of trans women, non-binary people and gender fluid people who identify as lesbian, bisexual or questioning their sexual orientation.
  • Rainbow Brew Buddies, a ‘telephone befriending programme’ that ‘aims to reduce loneliness for LGBT people across Greater Manchester who may have reduced opportunities to make social connections due to the current government COVID-19 restrictions or other circumstances in their life.’ 
  • Mermaids, a UK organisation that supports transgender, nonbinary and gender-diverse children, young people, and their families, has a handful of local groups that are meeting both virtually and in person.
  • TransUnite has a list of transgender groups located throughout the UK.
  • Bi Community News (BCN) has a list of bi groups that are meeting both in person and online.
  • BiPhoria, the UK’s ‘longest-running bi organisation’ is currently running all of their events online.
  • Open Minds Project is an organisation dedicated to creating a safe space for LGBTQ+ Punjabi people. They’re currently running a Punjabi LGBTQ+ student space online. 
  • Sapphic Writers is an online organisation and community for sapphic writers.
