Campaigns and Hubs The LGBTQ+ voting hub Voting by proxy If you can’t get to a polling station on polling day, you can ask someone to go for you. This is called voting by proxy. The person casting your vote can go to a polling station, or apply to vote by post on your behalf instead. Applying to vote by proxy You can apply to vote by proxy online. You’ll need to give a reason that you can’t go to the polling station yourself. You’ll also need: Your date of birth Your National Insurance number Your signature You can apply to vote by proxy for a specific election, or a type of election (ongoing) or for a permanent proxy vote. If you’re applying for a permanent proxy vote you’ll need to give a reason that you can’t go to a polling station in the forseeable future such as: You live with a disability You are living overseas and registered to vote You are away on an educational course or for work You are serving overseas in the armed forces. If you miss the deadline to apply for a proxy vote before an election, you may be able to apply for an emergency proxy vote.
