After the UK government’s guidance on single sex spaces, it's important that trans people and LGBTQ+ communities come together, support one another and make sure nobody faces this alone.

The guidance around trans people and single-sex spaces is going to leave a lot of people feeling anxious, upset, angry and uncertain about what comes next. Right now, it’s important that trans people and our wider LGBTQ+ community do not retreat into isolation or feel like you have to carry this on your own.

Community matters now more than ever.

  • Look after each other.
  • Check in on your friends.
  • Support people who are struggling.
  • Build each other up.
  • Make sure nobody is left alone with their fear, anger or anxiety.
  • Protect yourself and protect one another.

LGBTQ+ communities have always survived difficult moments through solidarity, visibility and community care. This moment is no different. Over the coming weeks there will be a huge amount of debate online and many organisations, workplaces and services will still be trying to understand what today’s guidance means in practice. We would encourage people to take care of themselves, avoid spiralling online where possible and focus on staying connected to supportive people and spaces. If you need support, please reach out.

LGBT HERO runs Trans+ HangOuts — peer-support spaces where trans+ people can meet others, talk openly and support one another in a safe and understanding environment.
