Binders

What is it?

Chest binders are undergarments usually worn underneath clothes that help to flatten the chest area. There are several binder styles depending on the level of compression desired. Some may look like full tank tops, while others might only cover half of the torso. Some people prefer to use binding tape to achieve a flatter chest instead of a binder, but it is important to use skin-safe tape specifically designed for binding and understand how to remove it safely.

How do I use it?

Here are some helpful videos to guide you in using binders and tape:

How do I safely use it?

When binding and taping, there are a few key tips to ensure safety and comfort:

  • Get the correct size (look at the sizing videos above) so that your ribs are not compressed incorrectly, which could cause long-term damage. If you are between sizes, it is safer to get the larger size.
  • Do not wear your binder for more than 8 hours and take breaks throughout, even if that is briefly taking it off while going to the bathroom.
  • Do not wear your binder to sleep, and do not double-bind. This can cause long-term rib damage.
  • If using binding tape, only use tape specifically made for contact with skin, and use lots of oil to safely remove it.

Packers and STPs

What is it?

Packers are used to create a penis-like bulge in the crotch area of pants, and some varieties of packers can be used for sexual activity or are Stand-To-Pee (STP) devices, which help to urinate while standing. Packing underwear can make the experience more comfortable and keep the packer in a set position. People may use socks or other easily accessible items like jock straps to achieve the bulge look as well. Some packers are realistic-looking, but overall, any type of packer can help people with their gender dysphoria.

How do I use it?

Depending on the packer, some may require special underwear to help keep the packer in place, but this look can also be achieved with tight underwear, packer pouches, or a harness.

Here are some helpful videos and websites on packing:

How do I safely use it?

  • Clean your prosthetics regularly: Silicone-based materials should be cleaned with warm water and oil-free soap, and foam materials can be washed by hand or a laundry machine (read the manufacturer's label!)
  • Sometimes, cornstarch or baby powder can help reduce daily chafing.

Tucking and Gaffs

What is it?

Tucking is used to create a smooth and flat crotch area by moving the testes and penis between the legs and securing them with either tape or gaffs. Gaffs are tucking underwear that compresses the crotch area for a flattening look and can be used alone without tucking tape. Tucking tape is used to secure the testes and penis in between your legs, and then underwear is worn over it, oftentimes a gaff. Tucking may be uncomfortable for many, but it should not be painful!

How do I use it?

Here are some helpful videos and websites on how to properly use tucking tape and gaffs:

How do I use it safely?

  • Do not stay tucked for longer than 4 to 8 hours, and do not sleep tucked.
  • Keep the area dry before tucking to prevent any infections.
  • Only use tape that is specifically for skin contact to avoid irritation and a painful removal!
  • Use oil to safely remove it, and take your time with the removal process.
  • Be aware that consistent tucking may decrease fertility.

Breast forms and plates

What is it?

Breast plates and forms are worn underneath clothes to create a fuller chest area, like a pair of breasts. Breast plates consist of the full torso area with breasts and are usually made from silicone and cotton. The breast plates provide a cohesive look, but are often less realistic in shape and can leave outlines in tighter clothing, especially around the neck area. Breast forms and inserts are made from silicone, gel, foam, or some sort of padded fabric. There are adhesive-backed breast forms that can be directly attached to the body or non-adhesive forms that are placed inside bras. Some bras are specifically designed with a pocket to hold the breast forms in place. Many people prefer breast forms because of the wide flexibility in prices, shapes, and skin colors.

Here are some videos and websites to help with measuring and choosing breast forms:

How do I use it safely?

  •  Clean silicone breast forms daily with water and a mild detergent or soap.
  • When not in use, keep the forms in a dry and dark place to avoid any bacterial growth.
  • Do not sleep in breast forms or plates to preserve the material and shape for a longer lifespan!
